Scope of delivery: 1 piece Blumat Maxi drip irrigation system with drip hose and T-piece, consisting of the base (porous clay cone + long sleeve) + watering head + 60 cm drip hose and T-piece 8-3-8 mm
An automatically controlled dripper for one plant or one container, which uses its clay cone as a sensor to be inserted approximately 7 cm into the soil. Irrigation is carried out via the drip hose, connected to the supply hose and triggered by a valve in the sprayer head. The water supply is provided by a shared water tank or the mains tap. Pressure is required for the sprayer head to function – either through a tank booster, pump, or mains pressure.
A particular advantage: The TB-Maxi, with its elongated design, is specifically intended for potted plants from approximately 30 cm in height or diameter, or for use in garden beds from a planting depth of approximately 15 cm. It senses and regulates moisture in the deeper soil layer, near the roots, so that watering is less frequent but more intensive, while the surface remains drier. Installation note: The insertion hole is usually pre-drilled, sometimes with a drill depending on root density; the clay cone must have good contact with the soil.
Dimensions (approx.): Total length 230 mm, max. Ø 35 mm, clay cone Ø 20 x 55 mm.
Operating characteristics:
Minimum pressure for tank supply approx. (30)-50 cm water column, pressure losses in the hose and avoidance of blockages require in practice at least 70-100 cm water column (Drop-Blumat to medium water level), better 150 cm, for larger systems a height difference of 200 - 300 cm is necessary.
Standard pressure 1 bar (operating pressure including losses 0.8 bar) using a pressure reducer or pump.
Application rate per Blumat drip irrigation system - depending on pressure, setting and valve opening (depending on dryness) - usually approx. 0.2-1 liter per hour, in dry conditions and above 130 cm water column up to 3 liters per hour
Water quality: Clean water is necessary, including clean rainwater, even with water-soluble fertilizer. Operation is without filtration – filtering the water at the tank inlet may be beneficial. Water treatment (softening) is recommended for water hardness levels above approximately 30°dH. Durability: Experience shows that under normal operation, approximately 8-10 years, usually more. Annual or occasional cleaning is advisable. Winter operation is possible under certain conditions. Required connection: 3508 drip hose, 3 mm – this is included and already installed in the watering head with an approximately 8 cm extension (= drip distance). The 60 cm length of the drip hose is intended to accommodate different container heights.
Connection fittings: 3517 T-piece 8-3-8 -- is present on the drip hose and is inserted into the supply hose. Spare parts: 3515 Clay cone with sleeve for Blumat drip irrigation, 3511 Watering head.
Function and Adjustment: Before inserting the Blumat drip irrigation system into the soil, fill it with water (for the sensor function only!) – see instructions for use. As the soil dries, it draws water from the sensor through the porous clay cone, creating a vacuum. This vacuum releases the thin drip tube (previously compressed) via a membrane in the irrigation head, and it slowly begins to drip. The water travels back through the soil to the clay cone, the vacuum inside decreases, the valve closes again, and the dripping gradually stops. Each drip point is thus sensor-controlled according to the tensiometer principle. Adjust the brown adjustment knob at the top so that the drip tube just stops dripping when the soil is optimally moist. The sensor requires some initial adjustment time, so this adjustment can only be made approximately the following day. The general instant adjustment is described in the instructions for use or in our adjustment recommendations. The correct initial setting is important, possibly a slight temperature adjustment in summer; occasional checks of the water level are rarely necessary with the TB Maxi, it has a good service life.
